My Comment on the OMB's Proposal to Turn "Hispanic" into a Race

The federal Office of Management and Budget is considering several proposals to change the official federal racial and ethnic classifications, including merging the ethnic and racial questions to address the inappropriate "race" choices for Latinos, and rather than placing Hispanic/Latino in the same category as "white," "black," and other races, the government should abolish the Hispanic/Latino ethnic classification and add a racial "Indigenous Latino/Mestizo" classification.
