New York Revises Bar Exam Application Question On Police Encounters To ‘Promote Equity’ And ‘Advance Diversity’

The New York state Appellate Division has revised a bar admission question that required applicants to reveal all prior encounters with law enforcement due to the disproportionate rates of policing and prosecution experienced in communities of color, a move which while it represents some progress still leaves room for improvement towards promoting equity and fairness in the character and fitness interview process, the New York State Bar Association said.
